The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), a non-profit international association whose headquarters are in Fairfax, VA, and the Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland are pleased to announce the creation of the Preferred Partner Initiative, a scholarship program intended to facilitate AFCEA members’ pursuit of their graduate degree in engineering; thereby adding to the knowledge, skills, and abilities of engineers and technical professionals who support our armed forces.

The Preferred Partner Initiative will provide AFCEA members a ten percent discounted scholarship when they enroll in the Clark School’s Professional Master of Engineering (“ENPM”) Program or the Graduate Certificate in Engineering (“GCEN”) Program to pursue one of sixteen academic options. To receive the scholarship, the applicant must be a current member of AFCEA in good standing in that semester and also in good academic standing with the ENPM or GCEN programs in the Clark School.

The initiative was formally announced at TechNet International in Washington, DC on June 19, 2006. The agreement to launch the initiative was signed by AFCEA President and CEO Vice Admiral Herb Browne, USN (Ret.) and Clark School Dean, Nariman Farvardin. Dean Farvardin comments that “it is our role as educators to present the latest theories and technologies to the engineering community locally and world-wide. And by partnering with outstanding organizations like AFCEA we can gain access to educate those engineers and improve all communities.”

“A core mission of AFCEA International is education,” remarks Admiral Browne. “This partnership with the University of Maryland will provide incentives for more individuals to increase their knowledge and skills. The result will be a better and stronger nation.”
