Biography |

Michael Hadjitheodosiou received the M.A. (Honours) in Electrical & Information Sciences from the University of Cambridge, U.K. in 1989, the M.S. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of California, Irvine in 1992, and the Ph.D. in Engineering (specializing in satellite communications) from the Centre for Satellite Engineering Research (CSER) at the University of Surrey, U.K., in 1995. He worked as a Research Fellow in the Communication Systems group of CSER (1991-1995) and spent a year as a visiting fellow at the Canadian Government Communications Research Center (CRC) (1995-96). In November 1996, he joined the Center for Satellite & Hybrid Communication Networks (CSHCN) at the Institute for Systems Research, University of Maryland , College Park , where he worked as an Assistant Research Scientist and is now Adjunct Professor teaching graduate classes in telecommunications. Since 2007 he has been a Principal Communications Engineer at ITT AES leading R&D activities in the area of next generation communications for FAA, NASA and DoD programs. Among his awards are: a scholarship award for studies at the University of Cambridge from the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust (1984-86); a Fulbright Scholarship for post-graduate work in the United States (1989-91); a Research Fellowship from the U.K. Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) (1992), and the Canadian National Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) post-doctoral fellowship award (1995). Dr. Hadjitheodosiou is an expert on satellite, space, wireless and hybrid network optimization. He has worked for several years in networking issues for VSAT networks, developed performance evaluation methods for satellite constellations, multiple access schemes for satellite networks and designs for satellite gateways. He worked on modeling and design of satellite constellations, utilization of commercial satellites for space mission support, and extending Internet services to NASA missions. His research interests include multimedia traffic modeling, service integration for wireless and hybrid networks, end-to-end performance optimization of satellite and mobile networks, protocol support over satellite channels, and design optimization of next generation broadband satellite systems. He has published more than 150 papers on these topics in a variety of journals and conference proceedings, organized and chaired conferences and served on the editorial board of technical journals. He is active in IEEE technical committees and involved with standardization activities in the industry. |
