Required text: Video Processing and Communications, Y. Wang,. J. Ostermann and Y.W. Zhang, Prentice Hall.
Prerequisite: A senior or graduate level DSP course.
Overview: The course teaches digital video processing methods and some main video coding standards. More specifically, the course covers basics of analog and digital video, Fourier analysis for video signals, spatio-temporal sampling, 2-D and 3-D motion estimation, video compression methods, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 standards, error resilience in video compression, H.263 video telephony and streaming video.
